Annabelle 2014
Annabelle, directed by John R. Leonetti, is a 2014 American supernatural horror film and a prequel to The Conjuring. The film was produced by Peter Safran and James Wan and written by Gary Dauberman. The plot is inspired by the story of a possessed doll named Annabelle, as recounted by real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The cast includes Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, and Alfre Woodard.
Due to the popularity of the Annabelle doll introduced in The Conjuring, a spin-off film exploring its origins was announced. Principal photography for Annabelle began in January 2014 in Los Angeles. The film premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on September 29, 2014, and was released in the United States on October 3, 2014, by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema.
While Annabelle received generally negative reviews from critics, it was a box office success, grossing over $257 million against its $6.5 million production budget. This led to the release of a prequel, Annabelle: Creation, on August 11, 2017, and a sequel, Annabelle Comes Home, on June 26, 2019. Annabelle: Creation was directed by David F. Sandberg and received more positive reviews than the first film. The third film, Annabelle Comes Home, was directed by Gary Dauberman and received mixed reviews from critics.
