Sijjin is a popular Turkish horror film series that first premiered in 2014. The franchise's original title, SİCCÎN, is a Kurmanji Kurdish word that means 'violent' or 'vehement.' Alper Mestçi, the director of the series, returned to his horror roots with this franchise after creating two successful global box office hits. The films are produced by Muhtesem Tözüm and were released under his Muhtesem Film studio's banner. Since their release, each film has gained worldwide recognition and has been regarded as a new wave in the Turkish horror genre.

The franchise's name is derived from the Arabic word Sijjin, which can mean either a book that lists the names of the damned or a prison located in the depths of hell. The word's origin is unknown, but it appears in the Qur'an in Surah 83:7–9. A similar word, Sijill, appears in 21:104 and is often translated as 'scroll.'
