Batman Begins - 2005

Batman Begins 2005

Directed by Christopher Nolan and written by Nolan and David S. Goyer, Batman Begins is a 2005 superhero film based on the DC Comics character Batman. The movie stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Tom Wilkinson, Rutger Hauer, Ken Watanabe, and Morgan Freeman, and reboots the Batman film series by telling the origin story of Bruce Wayne's transformation into Batman. The film depicts Wayne's journey from the death of his parents to his fight against Ra's al Ghul and the Scarecrow, who threaten to plunge Gotham City into chaos.

Prior to Batman Begins, the Batman film series had been put on hold for almost eight years due to the poor reception of Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997). Nolan and Goyer began work on the film in early 2003, with a goal of creating a darker and more realistic tone than the previous films. They wanted to emotionally engage the audience in both the Batman and Bruce Wayne identities of the lead character. The film relied heavily on traditional stunts and miniature effects, with minimal use of computer-generated imagery compared to other action films. Comic book storylines such as The Man Who Falls, Batman: Year One, and Batman: The Long Halloween served as inspiration.

Batman Begins opened on June 15, 2005, in the United States and Canada in 3,858 theaters. It grossed over $48 million in its opening weekend in North America and eventually earned over $371 million worldwide. The movie received high praise from critics, who appreciated the emotional weight, action sequences, score, direction, and Bale's performance, among other things. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography and three BAFTA awards. Batman Begins is often cited as one of the most influential films of the 2000s and was followed by The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012), together constituting The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Batman Begins (2005) Plot:

story of Batman begins with Bruce Wayne's traumatic childhood experience in Gotham City. After falling into a well and being attacked by bats, he develops a fear of them. Later, at the opera with his parents, Bruce becomes frightened by performers dressed as bats and asks to leave. Outside, his parents are murdered by a mugger, leaving Bruce orphaned and in the care of his butler, Alfred.

Years later, Bruce intends to murder the man who killed his parents, but before he can, the man is killed by one of Falcone's assassins. Bruce's friend Rachel chastises him for seeking revenge outside the law. Bruce then travels the world, training in combat and immersing himself in the criminal underworld. He meets Ducard, who recruits him to the League of Shadows led by Ra's al Ghul. However, Bruce ultimately rejects the League's plan to destroy Gotham and returns to his hometown, intent on fighting crime.

Using his family's company, Wayne Enterprises, Bruce develops a secret base in the caves beneath Wayne Manor and takes on the vigilante identity of Batman. He intercepts a drug shipment and provides evidence against Falcone, enlisting the help of Sergeant Gordon, one of Gotham's few honest cops. However, they soon discover a larger plot involving Dr. Crane, who is corrupt and has introduced a fear-inducing drug into Gotham's water supply.

Batman subdues Crane and saves Rachel, but Ra's al Ghul reappears with plans to destroy Gotham. Bruce stops him, refusing to kill him but choosing not to save him as the monorail crashes. Batman becomes a public hero, and Bruce gains Rachel's respect and love, though she decides they cannot be together unless Gotham no longer needs Batman. Bruce reveals he has purchased a controlling stake in Wayne Enterprises, firing the corrupt William Earle and replacing him with Lucius Fox. Sergeant Gordon is promoted to Lieutenant and shows Batman the Bat-Signal, which he will use to summon Batman to future crimes in Gotham, including those of the notorious criminal known as the Joker.
