In the story, "It," by Stephen King, a group of childhood friends reunite in Derry, Maine, to honor their promise to kill It, a monster that preys on the town's children every twenty-seven years. The group of friends consists of Bill, Ben, Beverly, Richie, Eddie, Stanley, and Mike. They discover that It is responsible for the recent murder of a young gay man and has taken on the form of Pennywise the Clown. The friends must find their childhood artifacts to perform the Ritual of Chüd, a Native American ritual that can defeat It. They face numerous obstacles and must overcome their own fears to defeat It. In the end, they succeed in killing It but lose one of their own in the process. The remaining friends go their separate ways but are forever bound by their shared experience.
