Insidious: The Last Key 2018

Insidious: The Last Key is a 2018 horror movie that was directed by Adam Robitel and written by Leigh Whannell. The movie is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and James Wan. It is the fourth movie in the Insidious series, and it follows the story of parapsychologist Elise Rainier as she investigates a haunting in her childhood home. The movie stars Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell, Spencer Locke, Caitlin Gerard, and Bruce Davison.

In June 2015, talks for a fourth movie in the series began, with Whannell stating that it would take place shortly before the events of the first movie. The movie was announced in May 2016 and was set to be released in October 2017. Whannell wrote the movie, Blum, Peli, and Wan produced it, Robitel directed it, and Shaye returned to reprise her role as Elise Rainier. Principal photography began in August 2016 and ended the following month.

The movie was released in the United States on January 5, 2018, by Universal Pictures. It grossed $167 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing movie in the franchise. The movie received mixed reviews, with praise for Shaye's performance, but some critics felt that the franchise had run its course.

Insidious: The Last Key Plot:

In 1953, Elise Rainier lived with her family in Five Keys, New Mexico. One night, Elise and her brother Christian saw a ghost in their bedroom. Christian tried to find a whistle to call for help, but their father became angry and locked Elise in the basement. While there, Elise opened a red doorway and was possessed by a demonic spirit. When her mother came to investigate, she was killed by the demon.

Decades later, Elise works as a paranormal investigator in California with her colleagues Specs and Tucker. She gets a call from Ted Garza, who is experiencing paranormal activity in his house. When Elise arrives, she realizes it is her childhood home. While investigating, Elise finds Christian's lost whistle and encounters a female spirit. She tells her colleagues that she saw the spirit when she was young and fled the house because of her father's abuse.

The next day, Elise meets Christian's daughters and tries to repair their relationship by giving them a photo of the whistle. While investigating the house, Elise, Tucker, and Specs discover a hidden room in the basement with a young woman being held prisoner. Ted reveals that he is responsible and tries to kill Specs, but is killed in self-defense.

Later, Melissa, one of Christian's daughters, is attacked by the demon from Elise's past, called "Key Face," and falls into a coma. Elise discovers suitcases containing belongings of other women who were held captive, including Anna, who Elise had seen as a child. Anna was still alive and was later killed by Gerald, Elise's father. Key Face had been controlling both Ted and Gerald, and Elise realizes that Key Face feeds on fear and hatred generated by the women they kidnapped.

Imogen, another of Christian's daughters, enters The Further to save Melissa with the help of Specs and Tucker. They are led by Anna's ghost to a prison realm where Key Face is holding all of the souls he has taken, including Elise's. Key Face tries to make Elise hurt her father's spirit as revenge, but she refuses to feed him any more hatred. Key Face attacks Elise, but her father saves her before he is killed.

Key Face stabs Melissa, but Elise blows the whistle and her mother's spirit arrives, defeating Key Face. They find Melissa's body in The Further and return her spirit to her body in the real world. Elise makes amends with her mother's spirit and agrees to help Lorraine's grandson, Dalton, who is experiencing paranormal activity.
