The Dark Knight Rises is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan and is the final installment in Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and follows the story of Batman's return to save Gotham City from the merciless revolutionary, Bane. Filming took place from May to November 2011 in various locations, and IMAX 70 mm film cameras were used for much of the filming to optimize the quality of the picture. The film received positive reviews, with praise being directed towards the performances, action sequences, screenplay, direction, musical score, and emotional depth. The film grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it the second film in the Batman film series to earn $1 billion, and became Nolan's highest-grossing film.

The Dark Knight Rises Plot:

Bane, a former member of the League of Shadows, abducts nuclear physicist Dr. Leonid Pavel from a CIA aircraft, while Batman has disappeared and Wayne Enterprises is struggling financially. Bane sets up his base in the city sewers and orchestrates a plan to destroy Gotham, with the help of Wayne's fingerprints that he obtained through corporate rival John Daggett. Selina Kyle helps Batman but betrays him to Bane, who reveals his intention to destroy the city. Batman fights Bane but is defeated and taken to an underground prison. Bane traps Gotham's police in the sewers and converts the Wayne Enterprises fusion reactor core into a bomb. Batman returns to Gotham and with the help of allies, defeats Bane and Talia al Ghul, Ra's al Ghul's daughter, who reveals herself to be the mastermind behind the plan. Batman sacrifices himself to save Gotham by taking the bomb far away from the city before it explodes. Batman is presumed dead, and Wayne Manor becomes an orphanage. Alfred discovers that Bruce is alive and in a relationship with Selina Kyle, while Blake receives a parcel from Wayne leading him to the Batcave.
