Bad Boys for Life is the third installment in the Bad Boys trilogy and a 2020 American action comedy film directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Chris Bremner, Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan wrote the screenplay for the movie, which is based on a story by Craig and Carnahan. Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Paola Núñez, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Kate del Castillo, Nicky Jam, Thomas Brag, and Joe Pantoliano star in the film. Smith co-produced the film with Jerry Bruckheimer and Doug Belgrad.

The movie is centered on Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, who investigate a series of murders connected to Lowrey's turbulent past. The idea of a third Bad Boys film was discussed after the success of the second installment, with Michael Bay expressing his desire to direct. However, budgetary limitations made it difficult to proceed. Over the course of a decade, the film underwent several attempts to enter production, with various writers and directors attached to the project. It was eventually greenlit in October 2018, and filming took place from January to June 2019 in Atlanta, Miami, and Mexico City.

Sony Pictures Releasing released Bad Boys for Life theatrically in the United States on January 17, 2020, through Columbia Pictures. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and has grossed $419 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2020. It is also the highest-grossing installment of the series and the biggest January release of all time.

Plot Summary:

Isabel Aretas, widow of a cartel kingpin, breaks out of prison with her son Armando's help. She sends Armando to Miami to retrieve hidden money and kill those responsible for her husband's arrest and death, with Mike Lowrey as the last target. Mike is shot and left in a coma by Armando during a family celebration. After his recovery, Mike joins forces with a tech-driven team to track down Armando, who may be his son. The team takes down several targets but fails to capture Armando. Captain Howard is assassinated, and Marcus comes out of retirement to help AMMO track down Armando. A final shootout with Isabel ensues, leading to Armando's arrest and Isabel's death. Rita is promoted to Captain, and Mike and Marcus lead AMMO. Armando is offered a chance at redemption in prison.
