Black Widow - 2020

Black Widow is an action-packed superhero film that is set to release in the United States on July 9, 2021. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it will be the 24th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The movie is directed by Cate Shortland and written by Eric Pearson, with a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson. It stars Scarlett Johansson as the lead character, Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz.

The movie takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) and follows Romanoff as she confronts her past while on the run. The film was shot in various locations including Norway, Budapest, Morocco, Pinewood Studios in England, and in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia from May to October of 2019.

The development of a Black Widow movie began in 2004 with Lionsgate, but the project did not progress, and the rights to the character reverted to Marvel Studios by 2006. Johansson was then cast as Black Widow in several MCU movies, with both Marvel and Johansson expressing interest in a solo movie over the years. In 2018, Schaeffer and Shortland were hired, with Benson joining in 2019, and Pearson added later. The movie's original release date of May 2020 was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it will now be the first movie to kick off Phase Four of the MCU.
