Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship is a horror thriller film written and directed by Bhanu Pratap Singh. It was jointly produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Shashank Khaitan. The movie was released in India on February 21, 2020, and is the first installment in a planned horror film franchise.

The movie is based on a true incident that occurred in Mumbai, concerning the MV Wisdom incident. The storyline revolves around an officer who must move an abandoned and haunted ship lying stationary on Juhu beach. The lead roles are played by Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ashutosh Rana.

Principal photography for the film commenced in December 2018 and concluded in September 2019. Since its release, the movie has gained significant popularity among horror genre enthusiasts.

Story:

The movie opens with the birth of Meera in 2001. On her third birthday, her parents, along with the crew of the ship called The Sea-Bird, celebrate on the ship. Meera's father is a merchant navy officer on the ship. While her parents and the crew party, Meera follows a snapping sound and goes to the basement of the ship. There, an unknown spirit throws her in the air and drags her while she screams for her doll. Fast forward, and Prithvi, a shipping officer, elopes with his girlfriend Sapna, who reveals she is pregnant. Prithvi foils a human trafficking attempt at a shipping port and is advised against taking such risks. He and Sapna are blessed with a baby girl named Megha. The movie then shows Prithvi alone and investigating the abandoned Sea-Bird. He finds a film tape and log records and later discovers a dead girl's body while trying to move the ship. Prithvi starts having hallucinations of the Sea-Bird, Sapna, and Megha. It is revealed that Prithvi's family died during a family vacation. Disturbed, he seeks help from a professor who does research on souls and afterlife. Prithvi returns to the ship and finds a video camera in the engine room. While watching the video, he finds out that Meera is trapped on the ship, possessed by a spirit. He meets Meera's mother, who tells him about the illegal activities the ship was involved in and the captain's atrocities. Amar saved Meera's mother and planned to flee with her, but the captain found out and killed him. After knowing the truth, Prithvi decides to save Meera and find the spirit's identity.
