Wonder Woman 1984 also known as (WW84: Wonder Woman 1984) is an American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Wonder Woman. It serves as the sequel to 2017's critically acclaimed Wonder Woman and is the ninth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Directed by Patty Jenkins, who co-wrote the script with Geoff Johns and David Callaham, the movie features Gal Gadot reprising her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. The ensemble cast also includes Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Robin Wright, and Connie Nielsen in supporting roles.
Set in the 1980s, the story follows Diana as she confronts two new formidable enemies - businessman Maxwell Lord and friend-turned-foe Barbara Minerva, aka Cheetah. Initially scheduled to release in June 2020, the movie's release date was pushed back several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, it was released in the United States on December 25, 2020, on the streaming platform HBO Max, simultaneously with a limited theatrical release. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the performances and themes, while others criticized the convoluted plot and excessive runtime. Despite this, the movie was a commercial success, grossing over $166 million worldwide.
Premise
Wonder Woman 1984," the legendary superhero Diana Prince, also known as Wonder Woman, faces her biggest challenges yet.
