The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
André Øvredal's directorial debut in English, The Autopsy of Jane Doe
(2016), is a supernatural horror film featuring Emile Hirsch and Brian
Cox as a father-and-son coroner duo. The story revolves around their
examination of an unidentified female corpse, named Jane Doe, portrayed
by Olwen Kelly, during which they encounter paranormal phenomena. The
movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September
9, 2016, and was distributed by IFC Midnight on December 21, 2016. With a
box office gross of $6 million, the movie was well-received by critics,
who praised it as a "smart and eerily suggestive thriller," according
to the Rotten Tomatoes consensus.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe Plot:
"The Autopsy of Jane Doe" is a scary movie about a dad and son who work
as coroners. They examine the body of a young woman and strange things
start happening. They find strange symbols in her body and injuries that
can't be explained. They figure out that she was cursed during the
Salem witch trials and has been dying and healing over and over again.
To try to break the curse, the dad sacrifices himself and the son has to
kill him. The movie ends with the idea that the curse may still be
alive.
